Our school programs are designed all years 1-13 and aim to meet both the school objectives and students’ needs and are tailored for each and every school.
Programs focus on teaching students core surfing skills, beach safety and awareness, and are guaranteed to leave a big smile on every face!
We are able to cater from as little as 8 up to 140 students per day with our award-winning multi-rotational surf programs.
From beach safety, understanding rips and currents and staying safe whilst surfing, students will gain new found confidence and appreciation of the ocean whilst learning to surf that is safe, easy and fun!
Delivered from your chosen beach in any Auckland and Northland locations.
We operate a strict ratio of coaches to students to ensure safety and plenty of instruction for time for everyone.

Overnight Camps
Fully catered, engaging, educational overnight camps!
Aotearoa Surf are the specialists in full-service overnight surf camps designed specifically for schools. (including all surf lessons, catering, accommodation, supervision and activities)
Our overnight school camps provide an excellent opportunity for students to learn the art of surfing and other activities while having fun in a safe and supportive environment.
The overnight aspect of the camps allows for an immersive experience, enabling students to fully dive into the sport whilst also learning important lessons about teamwork, communication, and respect for the ocean.
With experienced instructors and top-of-the-line equipment, Aotearoa Surf offers a unique and exciting educational adventure for all that join!

Aotearoa Surf School’s progressive surf programs are the perfect opportunity for primary, intermediate & high school students, to learn the exhilarating sport of surfing.
Our experienced instructors have designed a program that allows students to progress through a variety of beach and surfing skills at their own pace, ensuring that each individual can build their confidence and technique in a safe and supportive environment.
On top of this, our experienced team works closely with each school to ensure that our program aligns with their learning objectives and outcomes. With a focus on ocean safety, and environmental awareness, our programs are not only fun for students, but also educational.

Each school program includes professional surfing, paddleboarding, or kayaking lessons, all equipment, qualified instructors, and beach safety education. Sessions often include ocean awareness, beach games, and environmental lessons, creating a fun and educational experience for students of all ages.
Yes. All Aotearoa Surf instructors are ISA (International Surfing Association) qualified, first aid certified, and experienced in teaching children and teens. We are a Surfing NZ approved and Qualmark Gold accredited surf school. We also have a full set of RAMS, EAP, Hazard Register, and SOPs to ensure the highest safety and coaching standards.
We work with primary, intermediate, and secondary schools across Auckland, Northland, and beyond. Programs are tailored to suit ages 5 and up, from beginner-friendly sessions to multi-day surf education, leadership programs, and overnight camps.
We deliver programs at Te Arai, Mangawhai, Orewa, and Omaha Beaches, or any Auckland or Northland location near you. All locations offer safe, consistent conditions for learning. Each site is chosen based on school transport logistics and to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for every group.

Our programs support the New Zealand Health and Physical Education curriculum, focusing on water safety, confidence, teamwork, and outdoor education. Many schools use our programs as part of their EOTC (Education Outside the Classroom) initiatives.
We recommend booking well in advance as we are the largest school provider for surfing in New Zealand. However, we can sometimes accommodate last-minute bookings depending on group size and instructor availability.
Safety is our top priority. Each program begins with a safety briefing and ocean awareness session. Instructor-to-student ratios are kept small, and we only surf in safe zones with constant supervision and certified lifeguard-level staff.
Yes. We supply all surfboards, wetsuits, rash tops, beach games, and more for every student. Our equipment is regularly maintained and suited to different ages, sizes, and abilities to ensure comfort, safety, and an enjoyable learning experience.
Yes. We offer fully managed overnight school camps at Mangawhai that combine surfing, paddleboarding, kayaking, and coastal exploration with outdoor activities, beach games, and environmental education. These camps include all accommodation, catering, activities, and supervision, and are designed to build confidence, teamwork, and lasting memories for students.
