Aotearoa Surf is stoked to announce our annual ‘Have A Go Surf Day’ coming up on October the 6th, 2019. It attracts families from all over the country for an empowering and memorable day of surfing at Te Arai, Auckland. Along with surf lessons throughout the day, there will be beach games, prizes, give-aways and a competition to get everyone in the water and building upon their ocean confidence.
How it Works
‘Have A Go Surf Day’ is a safe, easy & fun ‘learn to surf’ day for all levels of surfers. We will have surfing, activities prizes and giveaways from Aotearoa Surf & our sponsors and the best part? It’s completely FREE! The benefits of ‘Have A Go Surf Day’ to the community are multiple;
- Building lifetime skills in children and youth such as ocean confidence and awareness, fitness and strengthening their swimming
- Bring families closer, allowing them to experience the magic of the ocean and appreciate our beautiful beaches together
- Breaking down the barriers of low income families through a free learn to surf program
- Letting kids be real kids; getting them away from screens and technology and out into nature!

Who is it for?
Our ‘Have A Go Surf Day is for kids and youth (4-16 years old) who may be new to surfing, beginners, intermediate surfers and even those that have never surfed before. Josh, Senior Coach at Aotearoa Surf tells us “I have participated in this event the last 4 years now. There is no better way to showcase surfing than to give our future generations the opportunity to try surfing when they are young, giving them ocean awareness, a place to make new friends as well as a super fun day out in the ocean!” says Senior Coach at Aotearoa Surf
What is included?
All surfboards, wetsuits, sunscreen and coaching provided by internationally qualified and experienced instructors, all of whom are first aid certified and surf lifesaving awarded. Also supported by our local trainee instructors. Lessons throughout the day will cover beginner and intermediate level knowledge and incorporate beach education and safety! Our sponsors will be there on the day and will include Vissla, NSP, Matunas, Platino and Surfing New Zealand.
